What Are You Waiting For?

(This post is last in a three-part of a series. See part I: Kick-Start Your Quiet Time and part II: Worship & Creativity for more inspiration.) You have spiritual gifts and creative gifts that the world needs!  What are you waiting for?  It’s time to start using them.  Maybe you feel uncertain about whether or not you really have creative ability and special gifts.  Allow me to clear this up for you:  You absolutely do.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to be a woman in the church.  Traditionally, women are slotted into a few areas of ministry, but not treated as if anything and everything is open to them.  In addition, while many churches have discipleship programs and young leaders’ groups for men, those types of groups are not always available to women.

Maybe you sit in church each week and hope that this will be the day that someone recognizes your gift and ability and calls you out with a prophetic word about your ministry.  You’ve witnessed this exact thing happen to many others—why can’t it happen to you?

It can happen to you.  It’s happening right now.  I see you.  I recognize and acknowledge the beautiful gift and ability that God has given you.  This is it.  You are ready.  It’s time to step into your destiny. See John 2:20: “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.”

With that said, within your church, absolutely submit to the appropriate leadership and do everything with gentleness and respect.  Absolutely, share what’s on your heart with your husband or close friends.  Then, as much as you are able within your current circumstances, step into your calling, your gifts, and your ministry.  The world needs you!  The church needs you!  Your life and calling are unfolding right now.

What Next?

  1. Pray and seek the Lord about what your first steps should be and get specific about the direction you will take.  While “pursuing music” is an amazing calling and gift, and definitely something to get jazzed about, that’s a dream that could take about a hundred different paths.  Pray.
  2. Write down your impressions.  What are the desires of you heart?  What would you love to do?  God leads us with the desires He gives us.  What have you always wanted to do?
  3. Can you relate your prayers and your impressions and heart’s desire to your current circumstances and situation?  For example, if you have small children at home, this may not be the season to go on tour with you’re a Capella group, but it could be the season to start a choir, or learn to play the harp, or write songs for worship.
  4. Find like-minded friends and encourage each other!  Also, hold each other accountable for stepping out and using those gifts and creative abilities.
